Program: Two Day Advanced Program – Enhancing Your Rorschach Skills

Location: NYC Health+Hospitals|Kings County, 451 Clarkson Avenue, Brooklyn,
New York, 11203, T-Building, Classroom 2 & 3.

Program Description:
This two-day program is for psychologists who are already familiar with the Rorschach Comprehensive System. Drs. Barry Ritzler and David Shmerler will be presenting challenging case protocols and discussing coding and interpretations. This is an opportunity to improve your Rorschach skills and enjoy the offerings of the “Big Apple.”

At the end of the two-day program, participants will be able to:
1) Differentiate correct and incorrect scoring for complicated Rorschach responses.
2) Identify updated coding for Comprehensive System responses.
3) Interpret Comprehensive System data to place it in a personality assessment report.
4) Describe limitations of the Rorschach Comprehensive System.

Faculty:
BARRY RITZLER, PHD, ABPP
Barry Ritzler is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Psychology at Long Island University in Brooklyn, New York. His specialty is personality assessment; and in addition to working with doctoral students he has taught graduate courses in Personality Assessment and Research Design. He earned his doctoral degree from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Yale University. For many years he was the Director of Clinical Training at the University of Southern Mississippi and Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey. Dr. Ritzler has lectured on the Rorschach method at Rutgers University in New Jersey and Yeshiva, Columbia, and St John’s Universities in New York City.

For more than fifteen years he was a Senior Faculty Member of Rorschach Workshops and conducted workshops on the administration and interpretation of the Rorschach Comprehensive System. He served as president of the Society for Personality Assessment (SPA) from 1995-1997. Dr. Ritzler has been an invited speaker at international seminars in various countries including Israel, Argentina, Italy, Canada, Spain, Brazil, and Finland. He has published ten book chapters and over 75 articles in scientific peer reviewed journals. In addition, he co-authored a book, The Quest for the Nazi Personality, 1996.

DAVID SHMERLER, Ph.D.
David Shmerler is the Director of Psychological Services at NYC Health+Hospitals|Kings County. Additionally, he maintains a private practice in Manhattan. David earned his doctoral degree from Long Island University, Brooklyn Campus and received his training in the Exner Comprehensive System under Dr. Barry Ritzler.
David began his work at Kings County as the Director of Internship Training for the Adult Track. In addition to his stewardship over the program, David provided training and supervision on the Exner Comprehensive System, which he continues to provide annually to the interns and externs who come to Kings County.
Prior to his employment at Kings County, David was the National Measurement Consultant for The Psychological Corporation (now Pearson Assessment) with whom he provided training and support throughout New York State for the many testing products produced by PsychCorp.

In addition, David specializes in LGBT issues and both serves on the LGBT Advisory Board for NYC Health+Hospitals and provides training on treatment of LGBT individuals. Hed has co-published several articles in peer reviewed journals on LGBT issues, including the training of psychologists in working with LGBT individuals.
Continuing Education:
Kings County is providing 12 APA CE credits for the Program and is responsible for its content.

Materials: Handouts will be distributed at registration, which opens at 8 am on the first day.
Schedule: The Program will be from 8:30 am to 4:30 PM each day with a 1.5 hour lunch break.
